Atlanta Hawks pick Lloyd Pierce as next head coach

The Atlanta Hawks are hiring the 76ers young assistant coach Lloyd Pierce as their 13th head coach to lead a rebuilding team which consists more of youths. The team made the announcement regarding this on Friday where the Hawks said that they would give Pierce the position of the head coach in the NBA to rebuild the franchise.

In a statement, the general manager of the team Travis Schlenk said, “It was critically important to find a dynamic teacher who could connect with and develop our young core while instilling the culture and high standards we feel are necessary for a successful program. Lloyd Pierce checks every box, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him leading the Atlanta Hawks into the future.”

The Hawks have arranged a press conference on Monday to introduce Pierce.

Pierce, 42, has served as an assistant coach for the 76ers since the past five seasons where the team successfully reached the Eastern Conference semi-finals after they finished at the third position in the conference with a record of 52-30. Moreover, Pierce had served as an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies for two years, including the year 2013 when the team successfully managed to reach the 2013 Western Conference finals.

There are more of youths coming in the NBA draft held in June. So the Hawks, having the three first-round picks, will be able to carry on with their rebuilding effort.

Furthermore, Pierce has also been an assistant coach to the Golden State Warriors in from 2010 to 2011. He was also a player development coordinator for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2007 to 2010. He began his carried as an assistant coach at Santa Clara, at his Alma master, between the years 2002 and 2007. He played for four seasons with Steve Nash, the two-time NBA MVP.
