Curtis Fuller, the Carolina Panthers defensive backs coach has resigned from the post this week, a decision which the team’s coach Ron Rivera calls as ‘complicated situation.’ And now, that looks quite clearer. As per David Newton from the ESPN Network, a spokesperson of the team, Steven Drummond said that the team accepted the resignation of Fuller on Wednesday after conducting an internal investigation.
After approaching Fuller with the investigation findings which were related to complaints filed against him for inappropriate conduct, the team accepted the resignation. The team is already deeply committed to ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment where all the members of the team, regardless of the sex, color, religion, gender, race or sexual identity, will be treated equally and fairly.
Considering the team’s present context, this sounds a bit ominous. Fuller had been associated with the team since the year 2013 and was promoted to the post of defensive backs coach in the last season when Steve Wilks, the present Cardinals head coach became the team’s defensive coordinator after Sean McDermott departed from the post and is now the coach of the Bills.
The investigation into Fuller’s conduct is not the first one to be conducted with the Panthers. Earlier, just a week back, the team’s owner Jerry Richardson was also investigated for an alleged misconduct case, made by both the team as well as the league, which further led to him deciding to sell off his franchise. One of the women who was harassed by Richardson called the investigation ‘a farce.’
The sale of the team is still being carried out, with several candidates trying to bid and make the right purchase of the team from Richardson. The Panthers now have a pair of assistant position coaches that are working with their defensive backs.
