Looks like J.T Barrett, the former Ohio State quarterback will not be going for the tryout invitation for the Indiana Colts as Mike Garafolo from NFL Network has reported that he has signed as an undrafted free agent for the New Orleans Saints.
Ian Rapoport, the NFL Network insider further added that Barrett had signed a three year deal with the Saints.
Barret, 24, was not selected in the other 13 quarterbacks during the 2018 NFL draft that was held in the past weekend. He roped in a record of 38-6 in 44 starts in Ohio State, by rushing for another 3,263 yards after 9,434 yards and bypassing 43 rushing touchdowns and 104 passing touchdowns.
The Sants have Tom Savage, Taysom Hill, and Drew Brees presently on the offseason roster while Barrett will be providing more of depth when he competes for a roster spot during the summer months. Savage, who signed a one year contract by the Saints during the free agency will project as a backup for Brees, while on the other hand, Hill will come back in the second season, after getting a clean chit from the Packers in the year 2017.
At the same time, the Saints still have a robust Ohio State connection. Barrett will be joining broad receiver Tem Gin Jr., wide receiver Michael Thomas, cornerback Marshon Lattimore, safety Kurt Coleman, safety Vonn Bell as the former Buckeyes in the New Orleans.
Notably, Sean Payton, the head coach of the Saints remained in Greater Cincinnati before moving forward to the NFL. In the years 1994-95, Payton served as the offensive coordinator at Miami University and has remained the New Orleans’ head coach since the year 2006.
