Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. attends Giants’ team activities

On Monday, the Giants opened their first organized team activities under Pat Shurmur, their new coach and along with the star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Shurmur said that he did not talk to Beckham, who is currently the subject of trade speculation. Shurmur said that he does not know how many of voluntary activities Beckham planned on to attend or what is the condition of his left ankle which was broken in the last season. However, Shurmur said that he expected to get information about his ankle by the end of the week.

Shurmur said that he had spoken to Beckham previously about how the video is showing Beckham on the bed, holding what appeared to be a hand-rolled cigarette released online. The video also showed a woman next to him, having white powder placed on a nearby table.

Shurmur further said that he was not tensed about whether Beckham, who wants to be the highest paid player of NFL, would be affected by the speculation and unnecessary attention surrounding the video and the trade rumors.
Shurmur said that Beckham is a professional and wants to be great. Beckham understands the importance of the offseason and is a competitive guy.

Beckham, a game breaker, is a three-time Pro Bowler who has played in 47 games in his first four seasons, catching 313 passes and 38 touchdowns and has averaged 94.1 yards. However, Beckham can be a distraction when his emotions get the best out of him on the field and when he does all sort of foolish things off the field.

Quarterback Eli Manning said that he thought it was significant for everyone to come and attend the team activities as a new offense was being installed. He said that he had not spoken to Beckham after the trade rumors came to the limelight or after the video surfaced on the internet. And so, he declined to offer any advice.
