With a mixed feeling of excitement as well as concern, Damian Lillard rejoined his team Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. On Thursday, he and his girlfriend welcomed their first son named Damian Houston Lillard, while a few hours later, Lillard got the news that his half-brother was shot and nearly killed in an accident near Clackamas Town Center in Portland.
Lillard told the media that his brother was shot five times and is now in a stable condition. Just before the Friday night’s 1-5-96 victory against the LA Clippers, Lillard said that his no. 1 concern is his brother’s health and well being. His brother is now stable and is doing fine and in a situation like this, one cannot ask any more than that, he further said.
Despite of everything, Lillard played the game and finished with 17 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in 38 minutes.
Lillard went on to describe the birth of his first child as one of the best moments of his life. Lillard flew back home from New Orleans after the Tuesday night’s victory over the Pelicans. He said that he watched the Wednesday’s game against Grizzlies from the hospital. His son was born on Thursday morning.
On the other hand, his brother Jahrell Lillard was shot when he confronted two men in a mall parking space. The authorities said that Jahrell eluded the men by running in a department store and later the emergency personnel was called.
SGT. Nate Thompson said that the callers reported hearing about 5-10 shots on Thursday night and saw two men run from the Clackamas Town Center parking lot. He further said that several rounds of bullets hit Lillard and many vehicles were also damaged.
Although the matter is still being investigated, Thompson says the investigators believe that Lillard may have been a victim of a targeted attack.
