It will be difficult to be hard for any player in the NBA to top the night Damian Lillard had on Tuesday. To begin with, the All-Star guard had put up an amazing performance to help his team Portland Trail Blazers to win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Dropping 41 points, six assists, nine rebounds and four steals, Lillard out-ruled Anthony Davis to get the Trail Blazers team a 107-103 victory.
Lillard played magnificently and has been on an absolute tear lately. The Trail Blazers have won 17 of out of 20 games, which include their Tuesday’s victory. During this stretch, Lillard is averaging 30.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.3 steals in each game.
With the Blazers latest victory, the team is now 2 1/2 games ahead on the Oklahoma City Thunder for third place in the Western Conference. Moreover, they are also closing in on securing home-court advantage for the first round.
On the other hand, Lillard left New Orleans to fly home, hoping to arrive in time to witness the birth of his son.
This means that Lillard, who helped the team won over the Pelicans, will not be playing when the Blazers visit Memphis for their game against the Grizzlies on Wednesday night. But considering how Grizzlies have been performing in the past few months; that should not be a big deal for the Blazers.
Lillard said that he learned about his girlfriend being in labour when he arrived in the locker room after the game with the Pelicans got over on Tuesday. He says that the message he received essentially read “Get home.” He said that he would directly go to the hospital once he lands in New Orleans. He says that he is excited to fly back but would also try and get some sleep on the flight given the fact how little sleep new parents tend to get.
