On March 7, the Denver Broncos defensive end Adam Gotsis was arrested in Atlanta on charges of allegedly raping a woman in Georgia in the year 2013 while he was a student at Georgia Tech football team.
As per sources, the incident was reported by the woman to the Atlanta police on February 1 and the warrant to arrest Gotsis was secured on March 7. As per the Atlanta police incident report, Gotsis surrendered himself to the police on Wednesday at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta.
Tracy Flanagan, the spokeswoman for the Fulton County Jail, said that Gotsis was released after he paid a sum of $50,000 in the form of a bond. As per the incident report, the woman told the police that she met Gotsis via mutual friends at a party which was held on March 9, 2013. The woman has accused Gotsis of raping her following the party.
Sara Becker, Gotsis’ attorney, said in a statement that although the incident in question allegedly occurred more than five years ago, Adam first learned of these shocking accusations last month. She further said that they immediately reached out to law enforcement and had cooperated with all aspects of the investigation while maintaining communication with the team.
In a statement issued by Broncos on Monday, the team said that it had been recently informed about the rape investigation and that the team has reported the NFL about Gotsis’ arrest. The team further said it would remain in contact with the league office on the matter.
The Broncos selected Gotsis in the second round pick of the 2016 NFL draft. He played in all the 16 games in the year 2017, starting 13 of them. Gotsis managed to acquire a total of 55 tackles, two sacks, five pass-breakups and two fumble recoveries in his two seasons with the Broncos.
