A voluntary test report has revealed that middleweight boxer Canelo Alvarez has found affected by a banned drug named clenbuterol. On the other hand, Alvarez promoters have blamed contaminated meat which has affected Alvarez. His promoters from the Golden Boy Promotions stated that the amount was there in the meat which has affected many athletes in Mexico and China.
On Monday, the director of the World Anti-Doping Agency Daniel Eichner stated that the values are all within the range as per the expected contamination rate. On May, Alvarez will go through a rematch with Gennady Golovkin, the middleweight champion which will be held in Las Vegas. After their draw, it is the most anticipated match between them. As per their promoters, for some additional tests, Alvarez will now travel to the United States.
Asthmatics use clenbuterol. It is an effective drug for fat burning, and athletes use this to reduce their body fat and weight. Apart from Alvarez, baseball players Raul Mondesi and Guillermo Mota, cyclist Alberto Contador, and more have been tested positive for this.
Commenting on this Alvarez stated, “I am an athlete who always respects the sport, and now this test has surprised me and bothers me because it had never happened to me.” To prove himself he will never hesitate to go through all the tests, and he will bring out the real truth.
Talking about Alvarez, the 27-years athlete is popularly known as the best boxer. His record includes 49-1-2 with 34 knockouts. He lost his previous belt in the match where he won on one card 118-110, lost 115-13 on another and on the third card the score was 114-114.
Tom Loeffler, promoter of Golovkin stated that all are now waiting for the decision of the Nevada commission. Golovkin will like to continue the fight if there is any way for this.
