Miami Dolphins chip in $17,500 for Douglas High School shooting victim’s family

After the recent shooting that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Fla, people have been donating to help the victims with funds coming in from various corners of the country. The shooting took 17 people as its victim along with assistant coach for the football team named Aaron Feis. The coach died protecting the students from the gunfire by acting as a human shield.

This show of valor and courage earned his family respect and a fund chipped in by the team of Miami Dolphins on Friday. Feis’s family was present with a check worth $17,500 by the team coordinator named Darren Rizzi which was collected after the team put in individual shares which included the employees, coaches and players in the same.

Rizzi explained in a statement provided to the Sun Sentinel that the team got together to discuss the matter in the morning after the incident with a plan to help out the family of coach Feis who was nothing less than an act of bravery. A total of 50 people pitched in the idea which totaled to a collection of $17,500. Rizzi further said that he was amazed with the generosity of people which included everyone starting from Coach Adam Gase to security. Everyone was impacted by the incident.

Dolphins team also donated a sum of $100,000 towards the “Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund on GoFundMe” which was organized under “Broward Education Foundation”. The same campaign has raised around $1 million as of yet which was collected from 17,000+ donors. Rizzi confirmed that he knew the victim Feis for a long time. His frequent trips for recruitment to the school as the assistant football coach for Rutgers increased their interaction.

He further explained that Feis’ act could not be explained with just words. It was a heroic act that saved many lives dubbing him a hero without capes.”
