Japanese figure skater, Yuzuru Hanyu returned back to South Korea with a smashing style despite his on-going recovery from a recent ankle injury. Hanyu had vowed to make his return worthwhile for the fans during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Game. On Saturday, Hanyu stood strong on his promise and bagged the title of being the first man in the category of “Men’s Figure Skating” to win straight back-to-back gold medals which is something that hasn’t happened in the history of Winter Olympics for more than 60 years.
Even with a serious medical injury affecting his ability to perform at his best, Hanyu pushed through the difficulty and bagged the medal to his named. During the performance, he boosted Japan’s winning streak with a 1-2 lead by getting ahead of the debutant named “Shoma Uno” at the Gangneung Ice Arena captivating the viewers with his powerful precision in performance.
Hanyu hadn’t competed from the month of October due to his injury and confirmed that even if this wasn’t his best yet but being able to perform again gave him a morale boost. He further assured that he is back to attain his original form to stand high and mighty proving a tough competition to any other player in the winter games.
Hanyu was affected with injuries from 2014 starting with the Sochi Games that were held in Russia. It was back then where he won the gold medal to become the very first man from Japan to win the same. He sustained an injury to his ligaments in right ankle during the practice for NHK Trophy in November. However, he pushed through his injury to return back and win gold for himself and his country. Hanyu has been affected from serious injuries in the back four years but he always managed to rush back to the scene and perform with all his courage and passion.
Hanyu has been the world champion twice. However, his injuries might disable him from attending the world championships to be held in Milan in the upcoming month. He has planned to sit through the same after pushing himself beyond the realm of possibility for the Winter Olympics.
