Michigan State freshman Brock Washington was accused of a criminal sexual assault and has been a subjected to the investigation since the beginning of the fall semester.
According to the reports, Washington was accused by a female student of sexual harassment in August. Ingham County, Michigan prosecutors are now determining whether to levy formal charges against the freshman Washington. Michigan State campus police have classified the alleged assault by Washington as a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
A conviction could result in an incarceration for a maximum period of two years. When accused Washington and the university officials were being tried to be contacted on Thursday by Outside the Lines but no response was received to the calls, emails or voicemails. When they further tried to contact the recently appointed John Truscott, lead the university’s crisis communications efforts, he responded he has no clue about anything in the case. Later when he was asked whether he could help by providing someone who could be questioned, he responded that they neither have any information nor access to police reports but would certainly look into the case.
Michigan State has been in the buzz for some time now for its handling of previous sexual assault incidents. For years, there has been a pattern of denial, inaction, and suppression of facts related to sexual assault, gender discrimination, and violence by the university. There are many such incidents that have come out as proof.
The university had once hired disgraced physician Larry Nassar. A former student-assistant coach continued to be in his position at the university after he had been criminally accused of punching the face of a female MSU student in 2010. Travis Walton, a coach at the university was also accused of being involved in another sexual assault.
