The Indianapolis Colts Coach Chuck Pagano is respected by all the players in the team. He started his career with the Colts with a 33-15 record. But on Sunday, the Colts fired Pagano after they finished the season with 4-12, including the 22-13 win over the Houston Texans. The Colts took this decision as they thought they had gone as far as they could with Pagano.
Before he was officially let go, Pagano said to the media, “I don’t know what tomorrow brings but I know I’m grateful for every one of his players. And I challenged them to finish, and what they went out and did today to finish this game, to win this football game, I’m forever grateful to every man and all the players I’ve had the opportunity to coach, past and present.”
In each of his first three years, the Colts scored 11-win seasons. In the third season, the Colts moved forward to the AFC championship game. They were on the rise. But later it stalled. The Colts could not make it to the playoffs in the year 2015 or 2016. After the 2015 season, Pagano’s job security was a question, but the good news came in when Jim Irsay, Colts owner, and chief executive, gave Grigson and Pagano job extensions. But still, Pagano’s job did not seem to be safe. Pagano had a good start with his career with quarterback Andrew Luck. But the offseason shoulder injury that Andrew Luck suffered evaporated all the chances that Pagano had to win in 2017 season.
In the seven seasons, Colts posted a 53-43 record for the team along with a 3-3 showing in the playoffs. But the Colts failed to make the postseason in three straight seasons.
Notably, Pagano is the second NFL head coach who lost his job. The New York Giants had fired Ben McAdoo on December 4 with four games remaining in the season.
