The MMA community is still coming to terms with the loss of Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who tragically passed away at the age of 38.

Johnson had been dealing with an undisclosed illness for some time, and it was only on Monday that more information was revealed. Reports indicate that the renowned UFC star was battling cancer and succumbed to organ failure resulting from a battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Johnson had withdrawn from the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix in September 2021 due to health reasons. The severity of his condition was not widely known, and his passing less than a year later came as a shock to many.

Ending his MMA career with a record of 23-6, Anthony left a legacy with 17 knockout victories. Following a title defeat in 2017 against Daniel Cormier at UFC, Johnson took a break from the sport for four years.

UFC President Dana White shared his condolences, describing Johnson as “a great kid” known for his exciting fights and exceptional knockout power. He expressed sympathy for Johnson’s family during this difficult time.

Kamaru Usman, a close friend of Anthony, likened his situation to that of Chadwick Boseman, noting how Johnson kept his health struggles private. Usman highlighted Johnson’s humility and strength, emphasizing his remarkable athleticism.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Johnson’s loved ones as they navigate through this challenging period.
