Luis Quinones tragically passed away five days after sustaining a serious head injury in a knockout defeat.

The 25-year-old junior welterweight boxer’s brother, Leonardo Quinones, shared the news of his brother’s passing on Facebook, expressing his love and sorrow for his beloved sibling.

During the Quinones-Munoz bout, a critical moment arose in the eighth round when Munoz lost his mouthguard, prompting the referee to pause the fight for its retrieval. Upon resuming the bout, Quinones, visibly struggling, was knocked to the canvas.

Following the knockout, he was stretchered off the ring and underwent surgery at the North General Clinic in Barranquilla for head trauma-related issues, including a subdural hematoma.

Despite being declared brain-dead, he remained on life support until his passing at midnight.

Prior to this tragic event, Luis Quinones had an undefeated record of 10 wins.

Quiñones is among the unfortunate instances of boxers who have lost their lives due to complications suffered in the ring just this year.
