After a thrilling 2-1 win against Philadelphia Union on Wednesday night, the Portland Timbers have secured a spot in the MLS Is Back championship finals.
The final showdown is scheduled for next Tuesday, where the Timbers will square off against the winner of Thursday night’s match between Orlando City and Minnesota United. The victorious team will also earn a coveted spot in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.
“I’m thrilled,” shared Timbers forward Jeremy Ebobisse. “Our goal coming here was to hoist that trophy at the end of the tournament, and now we’re just one game away from achieving that. All the hard work and sacrifices are paying off, and we have 90 more minutes to show what we’re made of.”
Portland saw goals from both Ebobisse and Sebastian Blanco, while Philadelphia managed a late response with Andrew Wooten’s goal in the 85th minute. The Timbers breathed a sigh of relief as a potential tying goal from Kacper Przybylko was ruled offside.
“I believe we earned this victory because we made it tough for them,” stated Timbers coach Giovanni Savarese. “Our two quality goals have propelled us into the final, and credit goes to the team for their dedication and effort in today’s game.”
