Upon their arrival at Nevada Wolf Pack, recruits and transfers often question Coach Eric Musselman about how Reno came to be known as the basketball capital of Nevada. When asked about Reno, Caleb Martin, a senior at Wolf Pack, initially mistook it for Las Vegas, as did many others. Even Caleb’s twin brother, Cody Martin, admitted to being unaware of Reno’s existence.

Coming from the East coast, Cody assumed Reno would have a hot and sunny climate like Vegas. Upon arrival, he couldn’t help but wonder why they weren’t in Vegas, highlighting the common misconception about the city.

In comparison to Las Vegas, Reno’s proximity to San Francisco and Sacramento played a significant role in Musselman’s decision to establish it as the basketball hub for the Wolf Pack. Musselman’s efforts over four years have successfully elevated Reno’s status in the basketball scene.

Musselman’s deep-rooted passion for the game stems from his upbringing. Being the son of former NBA and CBA coach Bill Musselman, Eric was immersed in basketball from a young age. His father’s influence and constant exposure to the sport fueled Eric’s desire to carve out his path to success.
