As the season progresses, the lingering question looms large once again. Each new season brings about the inevitable query: Will this be the year that ends Kansas’ Big 12 reign?

Recent events certainly raise doubts as the Jayhawks suffered their third loss in four games, succumbing 73-63 to Texas on Tuesday. The defeat was significant, with the game proving to be far more challenging than the final score indicates. It’s evident that Kansas fell short of expectations.

The game’s narrow margin was largely influenced by freshman Ochai Agbaji, who stepped up in place of Lagerald Vick and delivered an impressive performance of 24 points and seven rebounds. Dedric Lawson struggled in the first half, while Vick faced difficulties maintaining momentum after a quick start.

Had Texas capitalized on better decisions in the first half, they could have potentially pushed Kansas out of contention within the initial 20 minutes.

Returning to the initial question of Kansas’ ability to secure a 15th consecutive Big 12 title, the prospects appear uncertain. Yet, the season is far from over, and developments are on the horizon. Notably, no other team in the top twelve has displayed consistent dominance to oust Kansas from their position.
