Oklahoma Quarterback Kyler Murray Enters 2019 NFL Draft Despite Previous Deal with Oakland A’s

Following an exceptional college football season and successful Heisman Trophy win, Kyler Murray, the former Oklahoma quarterback, announced via Twitter that he will be participating in the upcoming NFL draft. Murray, who was selected as the No. 9 pick in the 2018 MLB draft, has a unique opportunity to pursue a career in both football and baseball.

Despite his connection to the Oakland Athletics, Murray missed the deadline to commit to the NFL draft, leaving the door open for potential negotiations with the baseball team. The Athletics have expressed a strong desire to retain Murray and have been granted permission to offer him a lucrative major league contract, altering their original agreement which included a $4.66 million signing bonus.

Should he choose to pursue playing both sports professionally, Murray will be entering a select group of athletes with such versatility. Additionally, if drafted as projected, he would become the first athlete to be chosen in the first round of both the MLB and NFL drafts, setting a new milestone in sports history.
