At this point in the Big 12 season, there is speculation about Kansas’ streak of conference titles possibly coming to an end. Last season, they suffered a 12-point home loss to Texas Tech in early January followed by a 16-point loss to Baylor in early February.
Looking back to 2016, a 13-point loss to Iowa State in late January had knocked the Jayhawks out of the top spot in the league. However, this season, it seems unlikely that we will see a repeat of such upsets as Kansas is heavily favored to win their fifteenth straight Big 12 championship. Recently, in a matchup that offered a preview of the contenders, Kansas faced Oklahoma and secured a victory.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech secured a narrow three-point victory over West Virginia, although the Mountaineers have not been as formidable as in previous seasons. Despite facing the challenge in Morgantown, Texas Tech managed to secure a solid road win. On the other hand, Iowa State defeated Oklahoma State, showing signs of improvement as Lindell Wigginton saw significant playing time.
Kansas appears to be slightly ahead of both Iowa State and Texas Tech. Fans should keep an eye on the upcoming game on Saturday when the Jayhawks visit Iowa State. In a separate league, Kentucky started the season as a strong contender but faced a significant setback against Duke, losing by a wide margin.
