In a stunning turn of events, Tony Harrison claimed the junior middleweight world title by outpointing Jermell Charlo in a closely contested match at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night. Harrison secured his victory with scores of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113, snatching the belt from Charlo, who was defending his title for the fourth time.

The fight was broadcasted on Fox by Premier Boxing Champions. Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, renowned trainer Joe Goossen, and Fox’s unofficial scorer Larry Hazzard Sr. all expressed differing opinions on the outcome, with some siding with Charlo. ESPN.com’s scorecard also leaned in Charlo’s favor at 117-111.

Harrison attributed his victory to controlling the pace of the fight, a trait he believes champions exhibit. By focusing on defense and setting up powerful shots, Harrison stayed composed and executed his game plan effectively. Grateful for the win, Harrison credited his family and team for their support and emphasized the importance of consistent training.

Charlo, who had plans for a unification fight with two-belt titleholder Jarrett Hurd later in 2019, suffered a setback with this loss. Disappointed but determined, Charlo expressed his resolve to reclaim his belts and acknowledged the challenge ahead in regaining his status as a champion.
