GGG Will Not Be Fighting Jermall Charlo

Gennady Golovkin is not going to fight Jermall Charlo, WBC interim middleweight champion according to Tom Loeffler, the promoter of GGG. Loeffler doesn’t see any logic neither does he see any point in Gennady Golovkin taking the fight. On the other hand, Loeffler wants a trilogy fight between Saul Canelo and Golovkin sometime in next year. Whether or not the fight will take place depends entirely on Alvarez and the Golden Boy Promoters.

Danny Jacobs has won the vacant International Boxing Federation of Golovkin last Saturday night after beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko by the unanimous decision of 12 close round at Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple. Jacobs had called out Canelo Alvarez after the fight, on the other hand, Eddie Hearn, Jacobs’ promoter of the Matchroom Boxing USA thinks that the Golden Boy Promotions who are promoting Canelo will much likely set up a match between Jacobs and Alvarez in May in 2019.

Jacobs and Hearn think that Canelo has to take the fight as he doesn’t have any other options when he moves back to 160 after he faced Rocky Fielding the ‘regular’ super middleweight champion back in December of 2015.

Loeffler also revealed that he would talk to DAZN and ESPN to find out a broadcast platform for Golovkin for his fights as his contract with HBO is reportedly expired.

HBO will not be broadcasting boxing after 2018, so it is essential for GGG to find a network for the fight. Loeffler has also disclosed that he is not willing to go through Matchroom Boxing USA’s Eddie Hearn neither does he wants to go to Golden Boy Promotion to sign a deal with DAZN. Loeffler also said that he is going to make Golovkin sign a deal with ESPN if that is required by DAZN to use Golden Boy and Matchroom Company.
