The Brooklyn Nets have bagged a sixth All-Star player to their team ranks with LaMarcus Aldridge. The 35 year old picked the Nets in a surprise decision instead of Miami Heat.

Following the arranged buyout agreement he made with his old team, the San Antonio Spurs, on Thursday, Aldridge became a free agent, sought after by several teams. On Saturday, he made the decision to sign on with the Nets for the rest of the season.

Details of the proceedings were released to the Associated Press by a source close to events. The source wished to remain anonymous, as there has not yet been any official signing of the deal. ESPN was the first news outlet to report on the story.

Playing alongside Aldridge on the new Nets team are fellow All-Stars Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. Brooklyn also added a former All-Star to their roster earlier this month with the signing of Blake Griffin.

Aldridge was All-Star player four times during his run with Portland, before transitioning to the Spurs, with whom he played five and a half seasons. He was taken off the court in early March this year while the team looked for a satisfactory trade deal. When none emerged before Thursday’s deadline, the team bought out his contract.
