Kiwi flyweight contender Kai Kara-France had an impressive win on Saturday, though it caused some confusion.
Kara-France achieved a knockout victory over Rogeio Bontorin in Las Vegas with a walk-off finish. However, after the knockout punch, Kara-France walked away assuming the fight was over, but the referee Herb Dean didn’t officially end the fight.
This led to Kai quickly coming back to continue until Dean intervened and stopped the fight. Bontorin was visibly upset and even threw his mouthguard at Kara-France in frustration, narrowly missing him.
“I knew it was over,” Kara-France commented after the fight. “The impact was significant, and I realized it was best not to continue with more hits.”
