Soccer player Mason Greenwood has publicly apologized after being caught sneaking women into England’s team hotel in Iceland, leading to his removal from the national team along with teammate Phil Foden for violating COVID-19 quarantine protocols.
Reports suggest that Icelandic women Nadia Sif Lindal Gunnarsdottir and Lara Clausen were invited into the England hotel by the two footballers, after allegedly being approached by Foden and Greenwood before the team’s arrival in Reykjavik. However, Anita Gunnarsdottir denied going to the hotel in a statement to MailOnline.
Both players were fined $1,800 by local police for the rule breach, and they are expected to face further consequences from their respective clubs and the national team.
Greenwood expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging the embarrassment he caused and taking responsibility for disregarding the safety measures in place. He emphasized the significance of representing England and vowed to learn from his mistake.
Similarly, Foden admitted to breaching COVID-19 protocols meant to safeguard himself and his teammates, expressing disappointment over missing the opportunity to travel with the squad to Denmark.
